Una River

The Una River flows through the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to an old belief, the name of the Una River comes from the Latin word uno, which means one, only. The Una also forms a large part of the natural border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. At its source, it is a mountain river, rising in the village of Donja Šuvaj under the Stražbenica mountain, and as it flows towards the mouth, it becomes a lowland river, flowing near the town of Jasenovac where it flows into the Sava River.

The total length of the Una is about 212 km. It flows through: Martin Brod, Kulen Vakuf, Ripač, Bihać, Bosanska Krupa, Bosanska Otoka, Novi Grad, Kostajnica, Hrvatska Kostajnica, Bosanska Dubica and Jasenovac. Its main tributaries are the Sana, Unac, Krušnica and Klokot.

Over 170 different species of medicinal plants grow in the Una, and the very rare plant Campanula unensis stands out.
