OLD TOWN OF SREBERNIK
A MEDIEVAL BASTION THAT DEFIES GRAVITY

There are places that seem to have jumped out of an epic fantasy scenario, and Old Town Srebrenik (also known as Gradina) is definitely one of them. Situated on an inaccessible, vertical cliff above the town of the same name, this hero of Bosnian history is considered the most faithfully preserved medieval fortress in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Historical roots: The city where the bans sat
Srebrenik is not just a fortress; it is a symbol of Bosnian statehood. Although the exact date of its construction remains a secret, its significance was recorded on February 15, 1333. It was here that Ban Stjepan II. Kotromanić signed the famous charter with the Dubrovnik Republic on the cession of Ston and Pelješac. Tourist Board of TK.
The walls of this fortress have survived sieges, changes of kings and empires, remaining the unconquered guardian of the Tinja River valley.

WHAT TO EXPECT THROUGH THE LENS?
Photographers in Srebrenik have the opportunity to work with some of the most photogenic subjects in the country:
Drone perspective: Srebrenik is a “drone paradise”. Its incredible location on the very edge of a cliff, surrounded by dense forest that changes colors with the seasons, is best seen from the air.
The play of textures: Massive stone walls, wooden towers and narrow windows (holes) provide endless possibilities for exploring the textures and architectural details of the Srebrenik municipality.
Magical fog: During autumn and spring mornings, the valley around the fortress is often filled with thick fog from which only Gradina emerges, creating scenes reminiscent of fairy-tale castles.
Night photography: Thanks to modern lighting, the fortress glows like a lighthouse at night, which is ideal for lovers of night photography and long exposures.

GREEN RING AROUND THE STONE
The fortress is surrounded by a lush white forest that is part of the Majevica mountain.
Flora: Here you can find rare species of moss growing directly from the walls, and rich glades of wildflowers and medicinal herbs that surround the access paths.
Wildlife: The sky above Srebrenik is controlled by falcons and hawks that nest in the inaccessible rocks below the fortress. Deer can often be found in the forests surrounding Gradina, while the walls are home to numerous species of lizards basking in the sun.

VISITOR TIPS
Tickets: There is a nominal fee to enter the complex, which is used to maintain the site.
Equipment: Even if you don’t plan on hiking, wear comfortable shoes due to the slippery rock inside the fortress.
Weather: The best time to visit is late afternoon, when the sun sets behind the hills, casting a golden light on the castle walls.
